Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
    and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
    my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge,
    who subdues peoples under me.
                    Psalm 144:1-2

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Ruth 3:1-18)

Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? Is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what to do.” And she replied, “All that you say I will do.”
So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had commanded her.
                 Ruth 3:1-6

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Today we see a wonderful example of how Ruth turns Boaz words back on him to hide herself of Boaz's "skirts". How Naomi told Ruth to do what she did in today's passage and how Ruth listened and obeyed what Naomi said is such a good example of faith and trust really means.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:

Boaz earlier talked about her seeking to find protection under Yahweh's skirts. She is pointing out that human life works on the basis of our also finding protection under the skirts of another human being. That is what marriage involves. Yet Ruth's going on to refer to his being her kinsman reflects the way a particular obligation to take a person under the wings of his protection applies to a man like Boaz, with his position in the community…
Naomi is right that he is a man who can be trusted to take action when action is needed.

John Goldingay. Joshua, Judges and Ruth for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.180-181.

If you were Naomi, do you think you have that courage to ask Ruth to take action? If you were Ruth, do you think you have that kind of total trust in someone that you would do what Ruth did?

This is all because of a faithful relationship with God and a trustful relationship with a human being. Do you have that kind of relationship?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to build up a faithful relationship with you and trustful relationship with your servants so that we know when to take action and are willing to take action to glorify your might name. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. If you were Naomi, do you think you have that courage to ask Ruth to take action? If you were Ruth, do you think you have that kind of total trust in someone that you would do what Ruth did?

2. Do you have that kind of relationship with God and his servants?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
