OT DAY 424 - Same Experience for Jacob and Samuel to Experience Ebenezer, 700 years apart (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.

                    Psalm 147:10-11

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Genesis 35:1-7)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis+35&version=ESV

God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.” So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments. Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.” So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears. Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree that was near Shechem.
And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob. And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him, and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.    Genesis 35: 1-7

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Today I have a wonderful experience when I was copying the Bible to pray. As you can see in those pictures I posted the past few weeks, everyday we have lots of people come to Richmond Emmanuel Church to copy the Bible to pray. And you can see below the reading list for January.

Today when I was copying Genesis 35:1-7 I found out what Jacob experienced is exactly what Samuel experienced. But, Jacob was 700 years before Samuel.
Yesterday I shared with you the five conditions for you to experience Ebenezer. Actually, step 2 and 3 can be combined together in the category as "Pray".

As you can see from what I copied in the photo below, I wrote the four steps or conditions:
    1. Get rid of all idols, serve God only (Genesis 35:2)
    2. Gather to pray (Genesis 35:1, 3,5)
    3. Repent, to be Holy (Genesis 35:2)
    4. Offering (Genesis 35:1,3,7)

Same result for Jacob and Samuel. Their enemies were no more!
Our action to gather to pray and to make a first fruit offering daily before the Altar actually is what God commanding His children to do long, long time ago. That's how churches and Christians in Korea and China prosper because most of the Christians in Korea and China gathering to pray daily at 5a.m. for more than thirty to fifty years!

Well, it's not too late for us to learn this secret to experience Ebenezer. It's not too late for you to join us. Monday through Friday 6:30a.m. to 7:30a.m., Saturday 8a.m. to 9:30a.m. Sunday 8a.m. to 8:30a.m

Come, let's gather to pray and offer our daily first fruit to God so that we can experience Ebenezer!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to live out that four steps so that we can experience Ebenezer. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1.  Do you think what I have received really can help you to experience Ebenezer?

2. Are you willing to do it, practice that four(five) steps?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
