Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
       Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
                                     Psalm 29:1-2

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 20:1-43)

13 And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says theLord, Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” 14 And Ahab said, “By whom?” He said, “Thus says the Lord, By the servants of the governors of the districts.” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.” 15 Then he mustered the servants of the governors of the districts, and they were 232. And after them he mustered all the people of Israel, seven thousand.
16 And they went out at noon, while Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the thirty-two kings who helped him. 17 The servants of the governors of the districts went out first. And Ben-hadad sent out scouts, and they reported to him, “Men are coming out from Samaria.” 18 He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive. Or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”
19 So these went out of the city, the servants of the governors of the districts and the army that followed them. 20 And each struck down his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them, but Ben-hadad king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen. 21 And the king of Israel went out and struck the horses and chariots, and struck the Syrians with a great blow.
22 Then the prophet came near to the king of Israel and said to him, “Come, strengthen yourself, and consider well what you have to do, for in the spring the king of Syria will come up against you.”

                                         1 Kings 20:13-22

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Well, Elijah went through all those seven rules of "Don't Quit" and he did not quit but he went back to where he was, waiting for God's another mission plan.
You may be thinking why Ahab did not do anything to kill him from that point on. Was Elijah lucky that he was not found by Ahab? Was Elijah under a very special protection of God just like what God did before so he was not found by Ahab?
The answer is so simple! Ahab did not have the heart and energy to chase Elijah anymore because he was being attacked by Ben-Hada king of Aram to the point of losing everything of what he had got.
When you come back to God and experience His life transformation procedure to you just like He did to Elijah, God has His own way to take you out of your troubles, worries and fear! Do you believe that? Have you experienced that?
The interesting thing is that when Elijah was being encouraged, renewed, revived and freshly anointed, God used an unknown prophet to do the big job in todays chapter. Elijah at first thought every prophet died but this chapter shows very clearly that God used a prophet with no name to remove Elijah's fear of being killed.
God does not need you to do His job, He has numerous faithful and humble servants. It is your honour and blessing to be used by Him to bring blessings to other people if you follow Him with no fear!
Just like King David's experience of his personal catch in Psalm 23, from "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" to "I shall not fear". Not wanting what he wanted but no fear of unable to meet his "want", no fear of lacking anything even no fear of death! That's how David experienced, that's how Elijah experienced.
            How about you?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be close to you so that we do not fear of all things because we have you with us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. What do you think is the reason that Elijah did not afraid of being killed any more? Do you agree with today's message? How can today's message help you to have no fear?

2. Is there anything you need to repent or change before you can experience what Elijah experienced?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
