OT DAY 507 - "Don't Quit" Rule No. 3: Eat And Drink (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
                                     Psalm 28:6

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 19:4-8a)

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” And he arose and ate and drank,

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

"Don't Quit" Rule No. 1 is to talk to God. Then, everything depends whether you follow Rule No.1 because nothing would happen if Rule No. 1 not happen. Why? Because when you are being discouraged and in depression you have no way to sleep nor to eat and drink. It's God who can give you good and sweet sleep and it is God who can help you to have the intention to drink and the appetite to eat, right?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
     (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :
After another day, for the first time he stops for breath, and for the first time he talks to God. God does not respond to his desperation except by providing him with sustenance.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.90.

And, sustenance begins with sleep, good sleep, sweet sleep and then you have the intention to drink and the appetite to eat, with an angel helping you! Have you experienced that kind of saving act of God to restore you from burnout and depression? Are you in such kind of process?

Dear Lord Jesus,
We are willing to be close to you and to talk to you. Help us to have good and sweet sleep and have the intention to drink and the appetite to eat. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you believe God grant sleep, sweet sleep and then appetite to eat and drink to His beloved children? Are you willing to claim His promise?

2. Is there anyone around you that you can help them to live out these three rules?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
