OT DAY 515 - Watch out for God's Messengers, Accept Their Instructions (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
                                     Psalm 28:6

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 21:17-26)

17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18 “Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone to take possession. 19 And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord“In the place where dogs licked up the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your own blood.”’”
20 Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of theLord. 21 Behold, I will bring disaster upon you. I will utterly burn you up, and will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel. 22 And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the anger to which you have provoked me, and because you have made Israel to sin. 23 And of Jezebel the Lord also said, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the walls of Jezreel.’ 24 Anyone belonging to Ahab who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone of his who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat.”
25 (There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. 26 He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the Lord cast out before the people of Israel.)
                                         1 Kings 21:17-26

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

What would happen to Ahab if God did not send Elijah to give him warning and prophecy? It would be a big disaster right away according to what Elijah prophesied.
Lots of time we make too many careless mistakes by ignoring the warning and instructions of people who deliver God's word to us. First, we do not listen. Second, we do not believe. Third, we do not care at all! Is this talking about you?
God loves you so much and He has been sending numerous people to deliver His words to you. And, He wants to raise you up to join in that team that you can deliver His words to those He commands you to deliver.
How are you going to prepare your heart so that next time God sends someone to speak to you, you will be willing to receive and respond with action?
How are you going to prepare your heart so that next time God asks you to deliver a message to someone, you are willing and have the courage to do so?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to be able to see who are those people you send to give us instructions and warning and be able to receive and respond with action. Help us to be willing to become the one to deliver message for you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. What is the role of Elijah in today's passage? What would happen if Ahab did not listen to Elijah's word?

2. Have you carelessly missed a lot of opportunities from God's messengers?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
