Bible Study

Today's passage gives us wisdom to keep the balance of our church. Those troublemakers wants to stir up divisions among Paul and the three main Jewish leaders, Peter, James and John. Paul, on one hand stands firm to those troublemakers, and, on the other hand, successfully keep the balance of the Early Church.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul has made it clear that he wasn't in the pocket of the Jerusalem apostles.  But he has also made it clear that they were very happy about him and his work.
Underneath it all, as the guiding hand to help Paul keep his balance, was the secret but vital work of God.  'The one who energized Peter and me … ' is a way of speaking about the strange, intimate and powerful work of the one God.  'They knew', he says, 'the grace that had been given me.'  If only church leaders, and ordinary members, could be humble enough to recognize the gracious work of the one God in and through those who work in a different way, with different people, and with different traditions, the gospel would go forward no matter how big difference on either side.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:Galatians and Thessalonians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.10-11, 19-20.

Could you be humble enough to recognize the gracious work of the one God in and through those who work in a different way than you? Do you have the wisdom to keep the balance of your church and not join in with those troublemakers to bring division to your church?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: I accept you and I love you!

What I got from Jesus today is something very difficult to do. How can we say and act in a real sense that we accept and love those who do not work in the same way as us. It is not easy! But, that is what Paul and the three leaders  successfully accomplished.

Can this wonderful balance and acceptance happen to you? Can you help and protect your church to be able to extend a real Kingdom ministry just like how Peter, James and John accept and love Paul and Paul accepts and love them?

Jesus is asking you one question now:
Do you know who is the person I want you to accept and love?

If you do not know, pray and you will know. If you know, do it!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to humble ourselves so that we can accept and love those who are working for you but not in our way and tradition.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
