Bible Study

To understand this passage fully, there is one word that needs to be understood.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The problem with this passage, which emerges in most translations, is the word 'seed', which I have here translated as 'family'. This is in fact the only way to make full sense of Paul's argument.  God made promises 'to Abraham and his seed';  the 'seed' is singular, meaning the Messiah - who, for Paul, represents God's people, so that the 'singular seed' means the single family, incorporated into the Messiah, that God always intended.  This was God's covenanted will, and nothing in heaven or on earth can shake it.  Certainly the law, a comparative latecomer on the scene, cannot do so.  The promise comes first and must stand. .

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:Galatians and Thessalonians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.36.

With this translation of 'seed' as 'family', does it help you to understand more about what Paul's says? How well are you a full member of this family?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: One family in Jesus

What I got from Jesus today is a reminder that we are a full member of a worldwide family in Jesus Christ. In reality, we can see the argument that those Gentiles are not full members of Abraham, they need circumcision. We can see that in the history of Christianity there have been lots of divisions. But, God's will is that we are in one family in Jesus.

How can you make an effort to make yourself and help more people to be full members of your church? Not to divide, to bring hurts, but to bring love and to build up your church to be one family in Jesus. How can you help your church and your people to be full members of this worldwide family and not just focus on your tiny church, but that one big family of Jesus?

That should be our life time call and ministry, right?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to put more effort in helping our people to be full members of your worldwide family so that we can extend your loving and mighty Kingdom. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
