Bible Study

Paul tries to deal with a problem of those Galatians.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The symptom of their rebellion that Paul highlights is one he doesn't mention elsewhere, but obviously it was becoming important in the muddled life of the young Galatian Christians.  'You observe', he says, 'days, months, seasons and years!'...
What seems to matter here is that the Galatians are insisting, on keeping the Jewish festivals; and the point of those Jewish festivals was that they all looked forward to the great act of redemption which God would one day accomplish.  So how can they keep them when God's future has already arrived in Jesus Christ?…
But the heart of the passage, and perhaps its central thrust for Christians today, is the call to find true freedom in knowing and being known by the true God…It's easier to rule your life by the old line-up of options: racial or tribal identity, geographical or territorial loyalty, the demands of money, sex and power.

Do you have similar problem? Do you have some old habits that you cannot get rid of so that you are not truly free?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: True freedom?

What I got from Jesus today is an important question to test our loyalty to Him as our Lord. Are we being lorded by something so that we can not have Jesus as our Lord?

Are we still insisting to keep some of our old tradition, old habits and old lifestyle that make Jesus unable to be our Lord?

Are you enjoying true freedom each day or are you going back to your Egypt being in bondage?

Daddy,
Help us to be able to taste the joy and power of true freedom so that Jesus can be truly our Saviour, Lord and King.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
