OT DAY 160 - How to Get into The Promised Land (請按此處收聼廣東話 )

On Feb. 18 Ash Wednesday(first day of Lent), I am going to put my newly revised 40 days Break.Build blog and podcast to this blog and podcast for 40 days. This is to encourage you to find one to two friends to be their discipler to walk with them for 40 days having daily devotion. Hopefully they can establish a lifestyle to have a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus from then on. There will be a blog written in Chinese that I have never tried before. Please pray for this 40 days Break.Build and be willing to be raised up by our Lord Jesus Christ to be one of the disciplers to lead people to Him daily.

Let us praise the Lord:

O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;
    sing praises to the Lord,
33 to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens;
    behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice.
                                             Psalm 68:32-33
Today's Reading: Exodus 23:20-33

      Here comes with the conclusion passage of the Ten Commandments. It is a very simple message, follow God and not other gods. Follow God's Commandments and not other gods' practices. That's all. And they can be in the Promised Land so long as they can do that.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

       God is set on establishing Israel in Canaan as a people that lives God's way.  Living among the Canaanites, however, might mean that the influence of the Canaanites on the Israelites is as far-reaching as the influence of the Israelites on the Canaanites.
      Which is how it turned out.  The Israelites ended up sacrificing their children and in other ways living like the Canaanites, and that is how the Israelites ended up being thrown out of the country: Ephraim in the eighth century, and Judah in the sixth.  The principle that applied to the Canaanites also applied to the Israelites.  In connection with Exodus 15:22-17:7 we noted Paul's assumption that the principle that applied to Israel applies to the church.  We don't have a country to gain or lose in the way the Canaanites and the Israelites did, but we have a destiny or a position to inherit or to imperil.

       Do you know how to get into the Promised Land now? Is that simple and easy or complicated and difficult?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to Felix Mendelssohn's On Wings of Song played by one of the greatest violinist Isaac Stern:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yj3RSxZmBQ

    The title I heard from Jesus today is: How to get into the Promised Land

    What I receive from Jesus today is a very simple way for us to get into the Promised Land. Yet, we always make that too complicated. Why? Because we choose to be influenced by our "Canaanites" rather than to influence them.

     Human beings choose not to live in God's way but a worldly way! And when God finds out it is enough and say, "That's it." No matter who they are, they are being thrown out of the Promised Land.

     So, today's message not only tell us how to get into the Promised Land. More important, how to stay in the Promised Land and not to be thrown out.

     Today is Valentines Day, a good time to ask this question. Just like someone ask his or her lover, "Do you love me?"

     “If you love me, you will keep my commandments."  John 14:15

     Where are you now? Approaching the Promised Land, already in the Promised Land, or at the edge of being thrown out of the Promised Land?

     Where are you now?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to love you and keep your commandments so that we can enjoy our lives in your Promised Land.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
