OT DAY 158 - Be Responsible And Be Good (請按此處收聼廣東話 )

On Feb. 18 Ash Wednesday(first day of Lent), I am going to put my newly revised 40 days Break.Build blog and podcast to this blog and podcast for 40 days. This is to encourage you to find one to two friends to be their discipler to walk with them for 40 days having daily devotion. Hopefully they can establish a lifestyle to have a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus from then on. There will be a blog written in Chinese that I have never tried before. Please pray for this 40 days Break.Build and be willing to be raised up by our Lord Jesus Christ to be one of the disciplers to lead people to Him daily.

Let us praise the Lord:

Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
    lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
his name is the Lord;
    exult before him!

      Like yesterday, I am following Professor John Goldingay's way of dividing sections, I have read just a small section of the require reading. If you have more time, please read the whole section of Exodus 22:15 to 23:9. We are going to discuss the central themes of the whole section and not to divide that into smaller sections.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

       The comments about the girl who gets seduced illustrate one or two points.  The Torah has no regulations for the regular process of marriage; that is an affair between families, and the Torah assumes people know what to do about it.  It deals only with marginal situations that cause conflict in the community.  It works with the fact of the "double standard," which makes it easier for a man to get away with sex outside marriage than for a girl.  One reason is that it is the girl who gets pregnant; who will have responsibility for the baby?
       There is the recurrent reminder about the Israelites' background in their rescue from Egypt: "You were aliens in Egypt…You yourselves know the feelings of an alien."..God's act of deliverance should shape the Israelites' lives, for it reflects God's nature.  The God who heard the Israelites' cry will also hear the cry of people whom Israelites ill-treat.  In other words, God's grace applies to other people, not just to me, especially when I am not generous to them.

John Goldingay. Exodus and Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.88.

       Are you responsible and good? Good to the aliens or even enemies?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to Felix Mendelssohn's On Wings of Song played by one of the greatest violinist Isaac Stern:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yj3RSxZmBQ

    The title I heard from Jesus today is: Be responsible and be good

    What I receive from Jesus today is a reality check of our way of life. Whether we have follow the worldly standard of having a "mean" spirit or a spirit of goodness. Whether we are a responsible person or irresponsible.

     We all know we need to be responsible and good. But when we act and live each day's life, lots of time we miss that. Goodness is not an individual fruit of the Holy Spirit because the fruit of the Holy Spirit is a singular number. Which means we can not have "goodness" so that we can be responsible and generous, unless we are being filled with the Holy Spirit each day. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control all come in one package when we are being filled with the Holy Spirit and that we can bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

     Children love to hear their parents praising them, "Good boy!" "Good girl!" "Good work!" When was the last time you hear from Jesus of that? "Good work!"

Come Holy Spirit come,
Fill us now that we can be responsible and be good. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
