Let us praise the Lord:

Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
All the earth worships you
    and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.”
                                             Psalm 66:3-4

The first four Commandments leads us to have a rightful way to love and worship God as top No. 1 in our lives and to put us into a listen and obey mindset with God.

The last six Commandments leads us to have a rightful way to love God's people so that God can work through our Godliness to lead more people into His Kingdom.

The first Commandment in the second set starts with honouring your parents. To some people, this is the least they worry and do. Why this kind of relationship with our parents is being put to be top No. 1 concerning with loving God's people.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The householder is to honour his parents, who will now be old and not as useful to the family economy as they once were, and who may be inclined to interfere with the decisions he knows need to be taken.  The family is basic to the way Israel is to work, and failing to honour one's parents imperils the fundamental structure of the society.  It thus imperils its very existence.

John Goldingay. Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.81.

Can you imagine what would happen if the whole fundamental structure of the society is being destroyed? Do you agree honouring your parents is the basic to this structure?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to Felix Mendelssohn's On Wings of Song played by one of the greatest violinist Isaac Stern:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yj3RSxZmBQ

The title I heard from Jesus today is: The fruit of honouring your parents

What I receive from Jesus today is an invitation as well as warning of how we need to honour our parents. What is the main reason if you can not respect and honour your parents, if there is any?

How do you as a father and a mother to live your life as a role model for your children to follow?

What Jesus reminds me now is the last two verses in the Old Testament:

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lordcomes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
                                                                                          Malachi 4:5-6

Shall we start with ourselves first to live out Malachi 4:5-6 so that our children see our example and will respect and honour us when we grow old. Also, this will surely help you to honour your parents too.

Are you willing to change yourself first to have your heart turning to your children and then your children will turn to you. In some cases, it needs years of prayers. But, the fruit will somewhat like harvest beyond what you can think of.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to turn our hearts back to our children so that we know how to honour our parents and our children know how to honour us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
