Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

             I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O Lord, I will make music.
                          Psalm 101:1

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Deuteronomy 20:16-20)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy 16&version=ESV

16 But in the cities of these peoples that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, 17 but you shall devote them to complete destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded,18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God.
19 “When you besiege a city for a long time, making war against it in order to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them. You may eat from them, but you shall not cut them down. Are the trees in the field human, that they should be besieged by you? 20 Only the trees that you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, that you may build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it falls.
                   Deuteronomy 20:16-20

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening

As you remember from previous blogs talks about the destroying of all people, Professor John Goldingay tells us that the killing act might not happen as we think. But, we need to know why God commands that. It is because those people's way of worshipping idols, evil deeds and bad habit will lead the Israelites away from God and follow Satan's wicked path.

Jesus leads us into the second Exodus journey just like how God leads the Israelites to have the first Exodus journey. There are lots of bad habit or even wicked behaviour that we need to get away just like the Israelites need to get away from those people's wicked behaviour.

How can you completely destroy your bad habit that God does not want you to do? If you do not do that, those bad habit is going to get you just like the Israelites were being influenced by those people's culture in later time causing destruction and almost total elimination of their people.

You don't want to follow the wrong path of the Israelites, right? Then, you need to ask Jesus to help you to completely destroy your bad habit.

Remember, there is no way for you to do it. You need Jesus leading you all the time to win this severe spiritual battle!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to completely destroy our bad habit. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you understand the similarity of your personal spiritual journey with today Israelites spiritual journey?

2. Do you know how many bad habit you still can not get rid of? Do you want to make up your mind to get rid of your bad habit starting today?

Praise and Thanksgiving
