OT DAY 565 - Your Little Drops of Water, God's Big Gift to You (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

                                                             Psalm 36:9

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 22:8-10)

And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.” 10 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
                                           2 Kings 22:8-10
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

           Wow! Can you imagine that!
A small act to honour God, God gave a big, big gift to King Josiah!
The sad thing is that why God's people did not have that book from the Bible? What happened to the missing book and being rediscovered because of King Josiah's act to repair God's temple ?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
The Torah scroll that both scared and inspired Josiah seems to have been some form of Deuteronomy; at least, when you compare what Josiah did with the content of the various parts of the Torah, you get most matches with Deuteronomy. The Torah is not just one piece of of teaching given to Israel before the people reached Canaan; it brings together several versions of God's instructions to Israel as these were given via people such as priests and prophets over the centuries in different contexts
We do not know whether it had been gathering dust in a corner of the temple for a year or a decade or a century, but this is when it comes to life.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.181.

We do not know why that scroll was missing. The important thing we need to know today is that when you have a true heart and action to honour God, God will honour you in a very special way, a big gift to Josiah and his people indeed!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know what is that small action you need us to do to honour you so that we can receive your big gift to us to renew our life and be able to be more closer to you.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

   Reflect on these questions:
   1. Can you guess what is the reason for the missing scroll?

2. Have you finished reading the whole Bible one time yet? Do you have some missing scrolls?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
