OT DAY 569 - To Return to God, Throw away All Your Idols (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
          out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
           making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
       Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.

                                                             Psalm 40:1-3

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 23:4-20)

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried their ashes to Bethel. And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellationsand all the host of the heavens. And he brought out the Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people. And he broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes who were in the house of the Lordwhere the women wove hangings for the Asherah. And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had made offerings, from Geba to Beersheba. And he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on one's left at the gate of the city.
                                           2 Kings 23:4-8
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

After listened to God's command through Huldah, King Josiah took his first step to renew the covenant with God. Then, he took away everything an idol worship had, removed everything, killed every priests of those high places and completely cleansed God's temple and Jerusalem.
What is the equivalent action that you should take to return to God or help other people to return to God?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to take away all our idols that you command us to remove so that we can be your holy people and that you are our Lord and King. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. How do you feel about King Josiah's action to lead his people back to God? How important was his action?

2. Can you have a prayer to ask the Holy Spirit if there is any idol the Holy Spirit would like you to take away?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
