OT DAY 566 - You Know And Ignore, Big Sin (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

                                                             Psalm 36:9

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 22:11-13)

11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes. 12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son ofMicaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, 13 “Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
                                           2 Kings 22:11-13
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

How blessed is King Josiah that once he listened to the words of the Book of the Law and he tore his robes, representing of his own repentance and his repentance on behalf of his own people.
What was his next step after his repentance? He asked the priest and three officials to go to see a prophetess.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
As well as copious instructions about loyalty to Yahweh and how that is to work out, Deuteronomy incorporates hair-raising warnings about what will happen to Israel as a consequence of doing the kind of things the community is doing in Josiah's day. In the first instance, it makes Josiah go and ask a prophet what action to take.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.182.

There are two very important things we need to learn here in today's passage:
1. Don't just read those books, chapters or passages you like to read and do not read those you do not like. In this case, the whole book of Deuteronomy was being put aside or hide in some place inside the temple because people do not want to read, do not want to hear and do not want to see and do not want to do anything about it. Are you one of those people doing that?

2. When we are confused like King Josiah, are you willing to find a servant of God trying all your best to ask ways to have the right side up? You need direction and you need God's servants to guide you. Go and seek for God's servants to give you guidance and ask them to pray for you.

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to read your whole Bible and not just part of the Bible. Lead us to be willing to be as close as we can to your Word, to you and to those servants you send to guide us.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

   Reflect on these questions:
   1. How important it is for King Josiah to do that two things as we mentioned above?

2. How would that two things affect your spiritual journey?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
