Bible Study

After Paul praising Jesus as the Lord and King who have supremacy of everyone and everything, he challenges the Colossians whether they are in this new Kingdom, whether they are willing to follow Paul as a servant of the King?

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul can only mean that when Jesus of Nazareth rose from the dead, as king and Lord of the world, a kind of spiritual shock wave ran right through the entire cosmos.  This was a new kind of event.  Nobody had ever gone down into death before and come up the other side.  God's new creation had begun: Jesus is, as the poem had said (verse 18), the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, and now he is bringing to birth the reconciliation and renewal of all things in heaven and on earth…
Paul's work is not the struggling attempt to persuade a few more people to believe an unlikely story, to have a new spiritual experience.  He is the servant of the message - the message which declares that new creation has come into being and that you are invited to share in it.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:The Prison Letters. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.156-157.

What kind of message have you been declaring? Is that something you bought lately, some new restaurants or place you went or some people you like or do not like? How often do you live each day as a messenger, a servant of our King and Lord?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Are you willing to be a servant of the King?

The message I got from Jesus today is a life changing question for each one of us. It is so easy for us to be a servant or even slave of so many people or things. Your king may be someone or something controlling you, making you worry, angry, unable to sleep or more negative feeling. On the contrary, your king may be someone or something you are so attached to, talking about each day, looking forward to a brighter future. No matter your king is the first one or the second one, how is that leading you to?

If your King is Jesus just like Paul, then everything will be changed. Why? Because what we are declaring each day will be Jesus, Jesus and Jesus!

Our Restaurant Church, Emmanuel 330 is going to have this year's first Alpha course in three days time, this Wednesday. Need your prayers for this special time that more people can come to know Jesus, to receive Jesus as their Saviour, Lord and King.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to be a servant of you as our King and Lord.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
