Bible Study

Wow! What a glorious scene here in heaven did John see! Praising and praying with three songs. More and more people from heaven to here on earth, more and more intense praising and praying. Wow! That's how when Christians understand Jesus is the lion and lamb should do. That's how when Christians know only Jesus is worthy to open to scroll to disclose God's mystery should do. Praising and praying!

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
When the elders fall down in front of the lamb, each of them was holding two things: a harp, and a golden bowl of incense.  John tells us what the incense is: it's the prayers of God's people, that is, of you and me.  The heavenly scene is umbilically related to the earthly.  The ordinary, faithful, humble prayers of Christians here on earth appear in heaven as glorious, sweet-smelling incense.  I suspect the same is true of the music, with the heavenly harps corresponding to the song, however feeble and out of tune, which we sing to God's praise here and now.  Then, in the first of the three songs in this passage, we find that the lamb is being praised, not just for rescuing us but for turning us from hopeless rebels into useful servants, from sin-slaves into 'a kingdom and priests' .  From rubbish into royalty.

N.T. Wright. Revelation for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.56.

How do you feel about this heavenly scene of praising and praying? What new insight have you got from this scene?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Worship Jesus! Praise! Pray!

What I got from Jesus today is an invitation to join the heavenly scene each day to praise and pray. And most of all, worshipping Jesus!

We as human beings spend too much time to worship other things rather than Jesus each day. We do other things to those we worship rather than praising and praying. Working crazily to serve your boss and have more money and power, working on computer and related technology to satisfy our personal need and desire and many other things that I can't think of or do not have a space to put it here. The situation is that we do not have enough time worshipping Jesus, praising Him and praying to Him each day.

Why? According to this chapter, very clearly, Jesus is the only one who is worthy to open the scroll, God's mystery. Only He can tell you what is the right thing to do. Only he can lead you in the right way. Only He can save you and protect you. No one else!

Don't waste your time to serve other people or things but to worship Jesus more, praising Him more and praying to Him more. More each day! Not only Sunday!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to understand you are the only one who is worthy to open the scroll. Lead us to be able to worship you, praising you and praying to you each day, more and more. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
