Bible Study

Today's passage shows us how the snake reversed God's command on humanity control over nature and creatures. How can that be? Well, that's our severe consequence of not obeying God's NO. Listening to other things rather than God.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Genesis 3 is illustrating a point that Genesis 1 implied.  The creatures God made were not necessarily inclined to live the kind of life God wanted.   They needed humanity to exercise control over them.  One aspect of the tragedy of Genesis 3 is that the snake successfully reverses the relationship of leadership and led between humanity and creation.  Humanity was supposed to exercise beneficent leadership over creation.  Instead, nature is exercising maleficent leadership over humanity
Genesis emphasizes the this-worldly character of temptation; more gadgets and a bigger house are the things that tempt us.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.41-42.

Do you have any kind of snake tempting you recently so that you are not willing to obey God's No? Can you identify those snakes?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: The severe consequence of not obeying God's NO

What I receive from Jesus today is a vivid picture put before us of how serious it can be of not obeying God's NO. I have seen people in deep depression, husband and wife became enemies, parents and children became strangers, churches divided, companies destroyed and many more. All because of not obeying God's NO.

When God says NO, and you say YES, a severe consequence will come one day. How easy for human beings to reverse God's good will. How sad it is that people think that they really can reverse God's will!

You need to be closer and closer to God so that you can be able to listen to God's YES and NO. You need to put down your crown, your pride so that you are humble before God to obey His NO.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to know that you are saying NO when you are saying NO. Humble us so that we can obey your NO. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
