Bible Study

Today's passage gives us the classic example of original sin. Is there any way to prevent that to happen? What if Eve said NO to the snake? What if Eve listened to God and not listen to the snake not even one time?

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

God has another grieved question, this one for Eve: "What is this that you have done?"  The full answer has creation-long implications.  In the short term, as Adam blamed Eve, so Eve blames that other strange creature.  Humanity's relationship with the natural world is also messed up.  That, too, had started when the snake spoke and Eve listened.  She let herself be deceived.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.50.

Is it possible to have Eve not being deceived by the snake? You may think that it is impossible because it happened historically. But, I think it could happen because this might not be a historical question but a relational question. Do you know what I mean?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: A good wife listens to God

What I receive from Jesus today is a hint to us that we may be able not to step into the same trap as Eve and Adam stepped into. How?

As I said in the first part, this is a relational question. If Eve had a better relationship with God, listening to God, willing to obey God's NO and she would not and could not listen to the snake.

Two days ago, the topic I received from Jesus is "A good husband loves his wife." I had quite a number of sisters in our church persuaded or forced their husbands to listen to that blog. And a husband asked me, "You talked about husbands, how about wives?" Well, here we are today.

"A good husband loves his wife" and "A good wife listens to God", then the snake cannot do anything.

Sisters, do you know how important it really is for you to be able to listen to God and be ready to obey Jesus' NO so that you won't step into the snake or Satan's deadly trap?

Brothers, do you know how important it is for you to lead your wife to have a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus so that she can be able to listen to Jesus and obey Jesus' NO?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to understand that a good wife listens to you and be willing to obey your commands.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
