Bible Study

From verse 9 to 13, the word "covenant" appears once in each verse, five times in five verses. How important it is that God wants to tell us He is establishing His convenient with Noah and us.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

In announcing the flood, God had told Noah, "I will establish my covenant with you."  Preserving Noah and his family is perhaps an anticipatory outworking of that covenant, but now God says in the present tense, "I am establishing my covenant."  It applies not merely to Noah but to his offspring after him, and it thus looks beyond the family that benefited from God's commitment to preserving Noah through the flood.  Indeed, it looks beyond the human beneficiaries of God's commitment to the rest of the animal creation.  God's covenant commitment applies to the whole animate world.  Never again will there be a flood to devastate the work or eliminate its life.

Do you understand the importance of God's covenant to us? What is He expecting the result of this covenant?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: The fruit of keeping God's covenant

The message I receive from Jesus today is a new understanding to God's covenant. It recalls lots of my memory!

First, rainbow is very important to me. God used the appearance of rainbow in certain critical time of my life to give confirmation to me of His call.

Second, Michelle and I gave the Chinese name to our younger son is because of the significance of God's promise through the rainbow. That's how we name him as Yan Lok, Yan is "because", Lok is "the promise". "Because of the promise."

The Holy Spirit leads me to look at verse verse 1 and verse 7 now. They are the same, "be fruitful and multiply." That's the fruit of being in God's covenant, we will surely live out being fruitful and multiply. That's the original purpose of God's creation.

So, do you think you are in a covenantal relationship with God? Do you think you have shown the fruit of being fruitful and multiply?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for establishing your covenant with us. Help us to be willing to keep this covenant so that our lives will be fruitful and multiply.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
