Bible Study

Do you believe that you are shielded and God's promise to you will soon happen? That's the message today.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says ( :
It is something God says to all three of the great ancestral figures in Genesis - Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (and also Hagar) - and something God will subsequently say to Moses, Joshua, prophets such as Jeremiah and Ezekiel, and the people as a whole.  It is not that they are characterized by an unwarranted inner timidity.  They will all have good reason to fear
"Have you got it, Abraham? I shielded you, didn't I?  That was not just a chance or once-only event.  I am your shield."  Abraham will have reason to be afraid again, and Israel will have such reason in different circumstances, and they need to remember that they are shielded.

It thus transpires that God was hugely understating what would come true for Abraham.  He will have a lot more than one or two thousand descendants.  But in the circumstances, one or two thousand would be enough to satisfy him.
And it did so, though there was no logical reason for it.  God gives Abraham no more basis for believing that God's promise will come true.  Abraham simply has to believe God's word, and he does: "He believed the Lord."

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.169, 170-171.

When there is no logical reason for you to believe that something God promise will happen, do you have the faith to believe that it will surely happen?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Shielded and promised

What I got from Jesus today is a great comfort. When God uses us to be the channel to have His promise happen, especially that task is illogical, how do you feel? Fear!

Today's passage not only shows us that what God promises He will surely make it happen. We also learn that in a God-size project there will be a lot of attacks towards us because Satan doesn't want you to believe. Those attacks will surely give you lots of fear and discouragement. But, today God is trying to tell you, "My son, my daughter, you are shielded."

Just believe! Do not fear! You are shielded and you will see what God promised will happen!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for your word of assurance that we are being shielded against all kind of attacks. Help us to believe, just believe. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
