Bible Study

This passage shows us a strange situation of Abram's backward journey. There are two messages we can think of today.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

It is a chastened Abraham who retraces his journey back to Bethel, back to where they had lived before things went wrong, back to the altar and back to calling in God's name

A concern with peaceful relationships within the people of God and reconciliation where there is trouble recurs in the stories of Jacob and Esau, Jacob and Laban, and Joseph and his brothers.  The people of God is a family, and its members are expected to be peacemakers.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.152 - 153.

Did Abram make a wrong decision of going to Egypt when things went wrong? Well, the Bible does not tell about that. What do you think?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: It's never too late coming back to God

It happens a lot when people make wrong decisions. But, most of the time they do not have the courage to admit their fault and return back to the situation before everything went wrong.

Think about that, if you have a faith issue and you leave God for your own journey, later you find out you are in a mess, would you have the courage to return to Him?

Or, if you have problems with brothers and sisters of your home church and you leave your church, later you find out you are wrong, would you have the courage to go back to that church?

Usually the Deceiver would give you one message and you can never get back to the right route again, and that message is: It is too late now!

No, it is never too late to coming back to God. It is never too late to coming back to your home church. Abram did that. And, when he did that and re-established his relationship with God he knew what to do when Lot wanted to pick a fight with him. God gave him the wisdom to be a peacemaker.

When we return back to God's route and God's plan, we become an image-bearer of God again, we become a peacemaker able to settle dispute in a Godly way.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know that it is never too late to come back to you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
