Bible Study

From today's passage we can find a brief description of Noah's descendants living in a kind of Eden-like life. Not just a couple in Eden as Adam and Eve but as a large group of people. It's a quite beautiful picture that all people spoke one language and be able to live together peacefully. But, we can see situation changed in a short while as we go to tomorrow's passage about the tragedy of the Tower of Babel.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

As Genesis 11 begins, we might be back in Eden. People are traveling "in the east," where God had planted the garden (Genesis 2:8).  Is there still something Eden-like about their life together (or are they looking for Eden)?  The story that will follow is another that tells of a train wreck.  This time, it concerns not just a human couple, a family, or a village, like the stories in Genesis 2-4, but an entity close to being a people.  Its life is somewhat Eden-like: it is traveling in fulfillment of humanity's destiny to fill the earth, and everyone can understand each other.  Then they find somewhere they want to settle down… For people listening to the story, the very name Shinar might also strike a worrying note. In the Old Testament it is associated with the worship of false gods.  It may not be such a good place to settle.

Well, human beings got another chance to live a Eden-like life because of one man, Noah a righteous man who had the relationship with God, could be able to listen to God and was willing to obey God's command of a Mission Impossible. How about you? What have you got from today's message?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: A second chance to live a Eden-like life

The message I receive from Jesus today gives me a lot of serious thinking. How many chances we as human beings have to leave our life of chaos to enter into a place that we can live a Eden-like life.

Our Lord Jesus Christ leads me to think of names after names like Noah, Abram, Moses and many more who obeyed to God's call of some kind of Mission Impossible and then people had a second chance to go back to live in a Eden-like life. But, every time, we human beings make a mess in a short while and we go back to a sinful life living in darkness, hopeless and purposeless.

Jesus leads me to think of what He says, "Repent, for the Kingdom of God is near." Our repentance gives us a second chance to live a Eden-like life and that is the Kingdom of God. And, our church is the place for Christians to live a Eden-like life. The question is, "Have you found a church that can give you to live a Eden-like life?" I don't think so. All churches on earth have their own problems. We can never be living together in unity to enjoy a Eden-like life unless our repentance is true and that we are able to listen, obey and worship the call and command of our Lord Jesus Christ each day. To be willing to do what Jesus asks from very little things to Mission Impossible tasks.

You have a second chance to live a life somewhat Eden-like, don't mess it up!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be closer to you and to each others each day that our families, our churches can be somewhat Eden-like. May your Kingdom come. Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
