Can we as Christians life a fancy lifestyle? What is your answer? Today's one verse, and only one verse may give your some inspiration.
Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
Solomon has now fulfilled every fancy on which he has set his desire. The word fancy first appears in Scripture to describe Shechem's fancy for Dinah (Genesis 34); it can be used for things that God fancies, too, so it's not a word that can't be redeemed, but it's a worrying word…
Later in the Old Testament, the book of Ecclesiastes will take Solomon as its poster child in discussing the emptiness of the things that people assume will make life worthwhile. He is the man who could fulfill all his fancies and desires; but what did it do to his relationship with God and with people, and did it get him anywhere? …
So the opening verse begins to raise such questions in our minds, but it doesn't answer them.
