Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word, Time with Abba (Psalm 132:6-12; 1 Kings 11:1-12:19; Acts 9:1-25, Proverbs 17:4-5)

Today's main passages:
King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molekthe detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.
On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemoshthe detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites. He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.
The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.10 Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command. 11 So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.      1 Kings 11:1-11

14 Then the Lord raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.    1 Kings 11:14

23 And God raised up against Solomon another adversary, Rezon son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah.24 When David destroyed Zobah’s army, Rezon gathered a band of men around him and became their leader; they went to Damascus, where they settled and took control. 25 Rezon was Israel’s adversary as long as Solomon lived, adding to the trouble caused by Hadad. So Rezon ruled in Aram and was hostile toward Israel.       1 Kings 11:23-25

26 Also, Jeroboam son of Nebat rebelled against the king. He was one of Solomon’s officials, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, and his mother was a widow named Zeruah.
     1 Kings 11:26

42 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.43 Then he rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.       1 Kings 11:42-43

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him.

My Listening
Actually we can see from yesterday's 1 Kings passage why Solomon collapsed so fast like that. According to Deuteronomy, when the Israelites had a king, there were three things the king could not do:
1. Cannot gather gold or silver
2. Cannot go back to Egypt to purchase horses
3. Cannot have wives and concubines

But, while Solomon was at the peak of his success and it seems that everything is under his feet, he did all three sins that God did not allow a king to commit.

How did God do about that?

God gave Solomon two attacks from outside and one attack from inside. And, there is no record of Solomon related to God. And, in 1 Kings 11:42-43 the Bible records the death of Solomon!

It is really scary! Do you think God would give him a second chance if he confessed and repented? But, he did not and die!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to learn from Solomon's pitfall that leaving you, nothing can be accomplished In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. What kind of strategy have you received from today's 1 King?
2.  What is your action not to fall into Solomon's same path?
