Today's passage about the new wine, old wine, new wine skins and old wine skins causes some major problems for Christians. Why? Let's hear what N.T. Wright says:
People sometimes use this passage to justify every bright idea and to mock every tradition, but that's not the idea. Jesus is doing a new thing; this new thing still forms the basis of Christianity today. The real challenge of this passage is to see where in the world - and, of course, in the church too - people are living today as though the old age was still the norm, as though the new life of the gospel had never burst in upon us. The task then is to live out the new life, the new energy, which was at the heart of Jesus' teaching and work.
Bishop Wright gives us a correct and good way to understand what Jesus was talking about. Are you living out the new life, being truly transformed by Jesus, filled and freshly anointed by the Holy Spirit and that you are more and more Christlike?
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Are you living out the new life?
What I received today from Jesus is such an important question to all of us. Many Christians think they are devoted Christians but their lifestyle have not changed much, they do not have an intimate personal relationship with Jesus, they have not led even one person to Jesus for years and they do not offer much of their time and money to their home church... Yes, there are many still living in the old age and we can't help them at all!
I hope you are not one of those! Let's rise up to be a true disciple of Jesus to help more people to live out the new life in Jesus Christ!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to help more people to enjoy the new life in you and not being stuck in the old age. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
