Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

I have been as a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all the day.
                             Psalm 71:7-8

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Numbers 18:1-32)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers 18&version=ESV

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 26 “Moreover, you shall speak and say to the Levites, ‘When you take from the people of Israel the tithe that I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall present a contribution from it to the Lorda tithe of the tithe. 27 And your contribution shall be counted to you as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the winepress. 28 So you shall also present a contribution to the Lord from all your tithes, which you receive from the people of Israel. And from it you shall give the Lord's contribution to Aaron the priest. 29 Out of all the gifts to you, you shall present every contribution due to the Lord; from each its best part is to be dedicated.’

                             Numbers 18:25-29

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
After securing Aaron's and the Levites important position in the last chapter, here in this chapter talks about duties of priests and Levites and how the Israelites should support them with their living. And, how the priests and the Levites have to tithe.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

God adds that the Levites themselves need to tithe the tithes they receive.

John Goldingay. Numbers & Deuteronomy for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.46.

I was ordained as a deacon in 1987 and a priest in 1988 in Hong Kong. But, I started tithing in 1996. Why? Because I thought I had already sacrificed a lot to God and what I had been earning was four times less than I used to make. So, I thought as a priest, I do not need to tithe.

I was wrong and I repented on that. I started tithing and then more than tithing since 1996. Oh, I can never imagine how my family is being blessed by doing what God commands to all people, tithing. We experience what Jesus is Lord really means and not "money is Lord."

Yes, pastors need to tithe and so as every Christian.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Show us in your own way the importance of tithing and help us to practice tithing.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you have the same kind of thinking as I had before 1996?

2. What have you got from Jesus today?

Praise and Thanksgiving
