Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

           You are the God who works wonders;
              you have made known your might among the peoples.
                             Psalm 77:14

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

     “Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

     "Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Numbers 23:25-24:25)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers 23&version=ESV

And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him, and he took up his discourse and said,
“The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor,
    the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,
the oracle of him who hears the words of God,
    who sees the vision of the Almighty,
    falling down with his eyes uncovered:
How lovely are your tents, O Jacob,
    your encampments, O Israel!
Like palm groves that stretch afar,
    like gardens beside a river,
like aloes that the Lord has planted,
    like cedar trees beside the waters.
Water shall flow from his buckets,
    and his seed shall be in many waters;
his king shall be higher than Agag,
    and his kingdom shall be exalted.
God brings him out of Egypt
    and is for him like the horns of the wild ox;
he shall eat up the nations, his adversaries,
    and shall break their bones in pieces
    and pierce them through with his arrows.
He crouched, he lay down like a lion
    and like a lioness; who will rouse him up?
Blessed are those who bless you,
    and cursed are those who curse you.”
                                  Numbers 24:2-9

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
     This passage is so powerful and useful to the Israelites for centuries. It reminds them of the blessing and protection from God whatever they face or wherever they live. What Balaam saw and wrote as a poem of verses 5 to 9 has been used for centuries as a Jewish prayer used on entering synagogue. It is perhaps the only words by a Gentile used in Jewish prayers. How can that be? Well, that's the power of the Holy Spirit. That's only the Holy Spirit can do to open one's inner eye!

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

     The Spirit of God comes on him in the manner of the elders in Numbers 11 and of some later prophets. It is a sign of the point he emphasizes; he can only say what God lets him say, and he has no alternative to saying that. He is under compulsion. He is knocked over by God, but his inner eyes are open, and clear in their vision.

John Goldingay. Numbers & Deuteronomy for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.65.

      How can you be filled with the Holy Spirit each day that your inner eye be opened so that you can be able to see what God wants you to see and say what God wants you to say?
      Prepare yourself to be filled by the Holy Spirit each day so that you can be used by God as a blessing to many people and you will be richly blessed!

    God bless you!

Come Holy Spirit come,
Fill us and open our inner eyes so that we can see what you want us to see and say what you want us to say to bless other people.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you know the importance of being filled by the Holy Spirit each day? How can you prepare yourself to be filled by the Holy Spirit each day?

2. Have you experienced what it said in this passage of the power of the Holy Spirit?

Praise and Thanksgiving
