Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence

2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile

2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people

3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

     “Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

     "Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Numbers 23:5-24)

 5 And the Lord put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, “Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.” 6 And he returned to him, and behold, he and all the princes of Moab were standing beside his burnt offering. 7 And Balaam took up his discourse and said,

“From Aram Balak has brought me,
    the king of Moab from the eastern mountains:
‘Come, curse Jacob for me,
    and come, denounce Israel!’
8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed?
    How can I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?
9 For from the top of the crags I see him,
    from the hills I behold him;
behold, a people dwelling alone,
    and not counting itself among the nations!
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob
    or number the fourth part of Israel?
Let me die the death of the upright,
    and let my end be like his!”

11 And Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have done nothing but bless them.” 12 And he answered and said, “Must I not take care to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?”

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
     This passage shows us the great power of God in the midst of a foreign power threatening to curse the Israelites. No one or nothing can hurt you or curse you if God wants to bless you. The truth is, God always wants to bless you! 

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:

     This foreign diviner has seen a vision of God's fulfillment of that promise. How great God's sovereignty is, regarding Israel's destiny and regarding the life and religious activity of someone with no relationship to Israel.

      We can also see that Balaam is a foreign diviner who speaks what God wants him to speak and bless who God wants him to bless. Do you think you can do that? Always doing what God wants you to do no matter what?
      If you are in some kind of trouble, darkness or even depression, you need to know that it is not God who put you there. God wants to bless you and take you out of those darkness just like how He did to the Israelites through Balaam.  
  
    God bless you! 

Dear Lord Jesus, 
Help us to be sure that you always want to bless us and lead us into your holiness, light and blessings.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. Do you know that God always want to bless you? Are you sure? Do you feel that you are blessed by God lately?  

2. How can you have that kind of relationship with God that you can receive words from Him, say what He wants you to say and do what He wants you to do?
