Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
              my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
              ever singing your praise!
                             Psalm 84:3-4

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Numbers 27:12-23)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers 27&version=ESV

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Go up into this mountain of Abarim and see the land that I have given to the people of Israel. 13 When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, 14 because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin when the congregation quarreled, failing to uphold me as holy at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) 15 Moses spoke to the Lord, saying, 16 “Let the Lordthe God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation 17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be as sheep that have no shepherd.” 18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him. 19 Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight. 20 You shall invest him with some of your authority, that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. 21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.” 22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, 23 and he laid his hands on him and commissioned him as the Lord directed through Moses.                                 Numbers 27:12-23

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Are you a leader in your church? If you are, are you a man or a woman in whom is the Spirit? Do you know how important that is if you are not?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Joshua has a specific task of leadership to undertake in leading the people into Canaan, as Moses had a specific task in bring them out of Egypt. Yet for Joshua and for Moses the ongoing, everyday task of provision and protection is at least as important.
This consideration may relate to the need for Joshua, as Israel's new leader, to be someone with spirit in him. What might that mean? Two stories about him may give us a clue. He first appears as the leader of Israelite forces when Israel was attacked by Amalek (Exodus 17). Then with Calleb he is one of the two Israelite scouts who insist that the people can defeat the Canaanites, because God is with them (Numbers 14). Joshua is a man with guts, another way of saying that he is a man with spirit.

John Goldingay. Numbers & Deuteronomy for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.75-76.

Yes, leaders with the Holy Spirit has guts because they will say and do whatever the Holy Spirit moves them to say and do. Actually it means that every Christian need to have the Holy Spirit, not only leaders.

May the Holy Spirit be with you each day!

Come Holy Spirit come,
Fill us that we can do the things you commands us to do and say the things you commands us to say. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Are you the one in whom is the Holy Spirit? How do you know? Do you have any track record to show that you are the one in whom is the Holy Spirit?

2. If you were Joshua, do you have the guts to take Moses baton to be the next leader leading the Israelites into the Promised Land? How do you know it is you and how do you have the courage to take up the new position? Is it not the Holy Spirit in you telling you and confirming you that? What else can you get the confirmation from reading today's passage?
