Bible Study
1. The consequence of unbelief
In the first month the whole Israelite community arrived at the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried. Numbers 20: 1
Moses removed Aaron's garments and put them on this son Eleazar. And Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. Numbers 20: 28
At the Lord's command Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor, where he died on the first day of the fifth month of the fortieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. Numbers 33: 38
From Numbers 33: 38 we know for certain that it was after forty years after the exodus and the Israelites had wandered in the desert for thiety-nine years. Most of the first generation had died because of their unbelief and missed out on what God had promised. We know that this chapter mentions the death of both Miriam and Aaron.
2. The consequence of Moses' fear and anger
The Lord said to Moses, "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water." Numbers 20: 7-8
Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the
community and their livestock drank. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not
trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community
into the land I give them." Numbers 20: 11-12
It is difficult to understand why Moses and Aaron did not have that kind of faith to listen and obey. What did they lack? I think it was Moses anger and fear that he did the same thing as God told him 39 years ago when they faced with same situation in the same place, Meribah, as in Exodus 17: 1- 7. But after 39 years, God wanted Moses to do new things and to show new anointed power. Moses was chickened! And the consequence was that he did not have the honor to enter into the Promised Land!
Let me have two questions for you to start your listen and obey process:
1. What have your learned from the mistakes of the Israelites and Moses?
2. Do you know how great the consequence of not listen and obey to God could be?
3. What have your heard from Jesus now?

What I heard from Jesus today is: Crazy faith!
Rev. Francis Chan wrote a very famous book called Crazy Love. What I got today from Jesus is "Crazy faith". God told Moses just to speak to the rock and it would pour out its water. How can that be possible? Are you sure it is not possible? Why the Red Sea could be opened? God told Moses to touch his staff on to the Red Sea and the Sea was opened! Which one is a greater miracle? Why Moses could not have that "crazy faith" to do that? Actually this is a relational question. Something has gone wrong with his relationship with God. Well, what would you react after wandering in the desert for 39 years and you bear the responsibility of two million people!
So, what have you heard from Jesus today? Do you have that kind of "crazy faith" that God expects you to have sometimes?
Dear Holy Spirit,
Pour down your fresh anointing that I can exercise that crazy faith when you call. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
