This passage shows a big difference between Peter and Judas. Peter in the last passage had a foolish denial and a true repentance. Judas was filled with remorse, admitted that he had sinned and betrayed an innocent man, but then he hanged himself! What is the difference actually?
N.T. Wright gives us a clear explanation:
Remorse and repentance both begin with looking at something you've done and realizing it was wrong. But the first goes down the hill of anger, recrimination, self-hatred and ultimately self-destruction, the way that leads to death. The second goes down the route Peter took, of tears, shame, and a way back to life. The chief priests and elders showed no remorse for their night's work. As far as they were concerned, they had done their duty to God and their country.
So, we have three groups of people. Peter who repented, was forgiven and back to life, Judas who was filled with remorse but hanged himself. The chief priests and elders showed no remorse but thinking that they did a good job for God.
Which group you belongs to? How can you help more Judas, chief priests and elders to become Peter?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: What a big difference!
What I got from Jesus today is a show and tell for us to know the big difference between Peter and Judas. The difference of repentance and remorse is such a contrast and difference between life and death!
For that group showing no remorse is even worse because they cause innocent people, God's servants to die thinking that they are doing a good job for God. Do we have this kind of people on earth? Do you have this kind of people in your church? How can you avoid to be killed by them? How can you help them to come into their senses and repent? If it is you, how can you repent?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to have true repentance and not just showing deep remorse. Show us how to help others to become a Peter but not a Judas, those high priests or elders. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
