Bible Study
Today we start a new book, Luke's Gospel. This Gospel is the first of two books (the other is the book of Acts) addressed to a man named Theophilus(1:3; Acts 1:1). The use of the title "most excellent" could indicate that Theophilus was a Roman official or at least a person of high status or wealth. He may have been Luke's sponsor, financial supporter or publisher who was responsible for seeing that the writings were copied and distributed. However, the book was also intended to instruct Theophilus personally.
Apparently, Luke was a Gentile who had become a follower of Christ. He is the only non-Jewish author of a Bible book. The Holy Spirit inspired him to write to Theophilus in order to fill a need in the Gentile church for a full and accurate account of the beginnings of Christianity.
What kind of relationship was between Luke and Theophilus that Luke was willing to spend that time to teach him the beginnings of Christianity? Is there anyone for you to spend time to teach and mentor following Luke's good example?
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Jesus Calls You to be a mentor!
What I received today from Jesus is to tell you that Jesus calls you to be a mentor. That's how Jesus did in that three years to be a mentor for his disciples. That's how Luke did to be a mentor for Theophilus. That's how Jesus calls each one of his disciples to do the same thing following those examples. That's how new Christians can become mature Christians!
ACiC and AI has been in a four years plan since 2010. In 2010 we focus on raising up Disciplers, in 2011 we focus on raising up Evangelists, in 2013 we focuse on raising up Mentors and in 2014 we focus on raising up Church Planters. We are going to repeat this cycle in 2015 and we can do all four areas in any year. Our plan is to follow Jesus parable of the growing seeds in Mark 4: 28, first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel then the harvest. In three days time we will be in 2013 and this is a God's timing to remind all of us that we need to prepare ourselves to be a good mentor and be willing to start to pray for Jesus to reveal to us who are those two to three people that He prepares for us to mentor. Then, we need to take action to follow Jesus and Luke's good example to be a good mentor. You will be richly blessed by God is you are willing to do this call.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to become a good mentor. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
