Paul starts to tell God's love story with us in yesterday's passage. Here, in this passage, Paul uses the imagery of the potter and the clay from Isaiah 29:16, 45:9 and 64:8 and also Jeremiah 18:1-6.

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):
They tell of a stage in Israel's history when God was struggling with rebellious Israel, like a potter working with clay that simply wouldn't go into the right shape.  The image of potter and clay was not designed to speak in general terms about human beings as lifeless lumps of clay, over against God as the only living, thinking being; it was designed to speak very specifically about God's purpose in choosing and calling Israel, and about what would happen if Israel, like a lump of clay, failed to respond to the gentle moulding of his hands.
At that point God's purpose must go forward, whether or not Israel is obedient to its vocation.

Remember the title I had two days ago was "Who can stop God's purpose for you? It's You!" ? So, is there any conflict with today's message?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: You really think you can stop God's purpose for you?

What I got from Jesus today is such a difference from what I got two days ago. Two days ago we were talking about the only one who can stop God's purpose for you is you. And, today we enter into a deeper level of this situation.

Yes, you are really the only one who can stop God's purpose for you. But, when God allows you to do that is because of His mercy. He is merciful to allow that to happen, to wait for you just like the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son. But, God just like the potter, He can remold the clay anytime He wants to and we can't say a word.

We, as disciples of Christ, are vessels to carry God's mercy so that more people can "come home" to God's Kingdom. How well are you doing this Godly job as a vessel of mercy? How well do you realize that after all, no one can stop God's purpose for you, not even you!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to know that no one can stop God's purpose for us. Help us to become a vessel of mercy to bring more people to your Kingdom.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
