Bible Study

The final chapter of this letter gives us two different pictures to think of. The first picture is the dark and hopeless situation of following the worldly standard of letting money, power and sex to control one's life. The second picture is the bright and hopeful situation of following Jesus and their lives would be ordered in a way full of generosity and love, holy and Christ-like, courageous and faithful.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

In the closing chapter of one of the great documents of early Christianity, we find sex, power, money, suffering - and Jesus. What's more, he's the one who makes sense of all the rest.  He is the same 'yesterday, today and for ever'.  The writer wants us to realize that, if your faith is firmly rooted in him, none of the forces that blow people off track and into the newspapers need harm you.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.168.

Is your faith firmly rooted in Jesus? How is money, sex, power and suffering affecting your life?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Rooted in Jesus, life becoming better

The message I got from Jesus today is something everyone wants, life becoming better. People fall into the trap of money, sex and power is because they are being deceived that those things would make their lives better and in fact make their lives worse and worse.

The author gives us a hint to rooted in Jesus successfully. Do you know what? It's all about how we cherish our leaders, how we help them, defend them and pray for them.

The reality in today's church is not that, we as leaders are so easily being hurt, accused, attacked and trashed. Those people who do this kind of unethical deeds are far away from the state of rooted in Jesus.

How about you? How do you treat your leaders? Are you rooted in Jesus?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be rooted in you so that our leaders are being protected and prayed for and our lives becoming better and better.  In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
