Bible Study

Peter tells us that because of the death of Jesus we have been ransomed. And, because of our being ransomed, we are becoming holy.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

The sacrificial death of Jesus has 'ransomed' us, too.  That is why Jesus was sent in the first place.  That was God's intention from the very beginning.
That explains why it is that Peter can call his readers, ourselves included, to a life that is so radically different from the way people normally behave…
Peter describes the previous state as 'ignorance'; you didn't know what you were made for!  But now you do.  Now you've been cleaned up for a much finer use.  So be sure you live up to it.
That means 'holiness': being set apart for God in every part and at every level.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.53-54.

Is being holy too much for you? May be you know that you can't do it and you have quitted thinking about doing it? What does holiness means to you today?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Is being holy too much for you?

The message I got from Jesus today is a reality check whether we are being ransomed or we are still living in the kingdom of darkness.

Jesus reminds me now of Colossians 1: 13-14

For God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The problem is we cannot do it. It is impossible for us to do it, but it is also impossible that if we claim that we have been ransomed by the blood of Jesus we are not holy.

My catch today is that if we are being brought by Jesus into His Kingdom that we will surely becoming more and more holy. Yes, we need to work hard because the "dark force" always want to get us back in a life opposite to be holy.

I do hope and pray that being holy won't be too much for you.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to follow you as our Lord and King so that we can be holy, because you are holy. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
