Bible Study

After Peter tells his readers and us who we really are as the living stones, holy priesthood and chosen people of God, he wants us to know how we need to change our lives accordingly.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

Once you've understood who you really are within God's great, world-changng purposes, it is vital that you learn to live appropriately…
Be subject to the ruling authorities, but make sure at the same time that, by your good behaviour, you shame those who, out of folly and ignorance, want to criticize you.  That is how God is establishing his presence and his rule on earth as in heaven.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.65, 67.

How does today's passage give you a hint of how you should live your new life in Christ as a holy priest and His chosen people?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Your new way of living

The message I got from Jesus today is a calling to really live out a renewed life. To keep on having your good behaviour so that you can shame those who criticize you is very difficult.  Because most of the time, we as human beings tend to react accordingly and return fists with fists.

Obeying the rulers especially in the early church time is even impossible. You never can imagine how bad the Roman empire was and how much the Israelites were being oppressed.

So, both cases are about how should we as Christians behave when we are under criticism, accusation and persecution. Do you think you still can have a peaceful mind, a good behaviour, so that in God's time those who persecute you will feel shameful? Can you do that?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to behave well when we are being criticized and accused. Help us to really be able to live out our new life in you.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
