Bible Study

Following the two good ways of good marriage, Peter gives the one good way to good life: Repay evil and insult with blessing. How can it be? Impossible! We just can't do it, right? Yes, you can do it.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

Peter, like Paul in one passage after another, insists on this as a basic rule of life: like-minded, sympathetic, loving, tender-hearted and humble.  We may think of some people as naturally tender-hearted, and others as naturally a bit rough and cross-grained.  But the early Christians assumed that they were all called to become tender-hearted, however difficult that might be.  That's why we are given the Holy spirit, to enable us to work at the new habits of heart and life.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.78.

If we do not live out the new habits of heart and life as a true disciples of Christ, how can we demonstrate our lifestyle of Christlikeness to the others? What is the difference if we repay evil with evil, insult with insult?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: One way to good life

The message I got from Jesus today is something most Christians can not do, but is required if you want a good life of being a true Christian according to what Peter says in today's passage.

Well, you may be able not to repay evil with evil or insult with insult. Although you must be feeling bad and sometimes can't get sleep if you are being treated that way.  But, to repay evil and insult with blessing is nearly impossible.

How? Let's think it the other way. I think the answer is in verse 15. "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord." Yes, if Jesus is really your Lord then you can bless all people just like Jesus bless all of us.

So, next time when someone insults you or even does something really bad to you. Bless him, bless her! Not just in saying, "Bless you," and deep down in your heart, "Go kill yourself." But, really bless that guy. Because he or she is only a victim being deceived by the devil to be an instrument to hurt people and to destroy relationship. Your blessing may break that curse and the force of darkness to bring light, hope and smile in.

That's the one way to good life: bless. Bless the Lord oh my soul. Bless those who do evil and insult oh my soul!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to bless those who do evil and insult on us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
