Bible Study

James wants to encourage those who are in suffering to have patience trusting that the Lord will come in His good time. The lack of patience and trust make people to have all kinds of grumbles.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

Patience and trust must issue in appropriate speech.  Again, there is a warning about grumbling against one another (verse 9): clearly this was quite a problem in James's church.  Sad though this is, we shouldn't be surprised.  The early Christians in Jerusalem and the surrounding area had suffered persecution ever since the death of Stephen (Acts 7).  When groups and fellowships find themselves under threat from the outside, the fear and anxiety can easily breed quarrels and grumbles on the inside as well.  Patience with one another is a further aspect of humility.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.39.

Do you have this kind of grumbling in your church? How can you help those who are grumbling to have more patience and trust?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: What has grumbling to do with patience and trust

The message I got from Jesus today is an invitation to us to help those who are grumbling to have more patience and trust.

But, may be we can't help them. Because when people are in grumbling, they do not want to listen because they have their own decision of who is right and who is wrong.

So, may be it is you to have more patience and trust in the Lord that in His good time He will come to take care of this problem. Yes, the Lord has His own way to deal with grumbling since Old Testament time.

For me, fasting and prayers are the only way I have been practicing to get rid of the bitterness, darkness and discouragement from all kinds of grumbling and attacks.

What I have experienced is that when I pray and fast, I have more patience and trust and won't join in the party of grumbling. And, in time, I have seen numerous times that God showed up and case closed. Have you experience that?

    Be patience and trust!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to have patience and trust so that we won't be drown by grumbling.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
