Bible Study

Here in this passage, James tells us how not to become a bad guy and how to become a good guy according to God's standard. Very simple, resist the devil and draw near to God.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

The devil is a coward; when he is resisted, with the prayer that claims the victory of Jesus on the cross, he knows he is beaten.  His trick is to whisper that we know we can't resist; he's got us before and he'll get us again, so why not just give in straight away and save all that bother?  It's a lie.  Resist him and he will run.
Second, though, 'draw near to God and he will draw near to you'.  That is astonishing!  God is ready and waiting.  He longs to establish a friendship with you, a friendship deeper, stronger and more satisfying than you can ever imagine.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.29.

So, who is the one you are drawing closer and closer each day?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Resist the devil, draw near to God

The message I got from Jesus today is a checkpoint for each one of us. Of course you are going to say that you are those who draw near to God and not to the devil.  But, do you have those negative characters as described in this passage? Causing fights and quarrels, kill and covet, pride and envy, and more. Do you aware who are those people full of these? Don't get close to them!

Be humble, be pure, be single-minded to draw near to God!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to resist the devil and to draw near to you each day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
