Bible Study

After the author tells us the only thing that is going to last is God's word in yesterday's passage, he shows us the consequence of lacking in God's word in today's passage. Do you know what is that? It is anger and human's hurting word.

God's word is to love and build, but human's word of anger is to hurt and destroy.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

If what we want is God's justice, going to sort things out, we will do better to get entirely out of the way and let God do his own work, rather than supposing our burst of anger (which will most likely have all sorts of nasty bits to it, such as wounded pride, malice and envy) will somehow help God do what needs to be done.
The way God works in us and through us is not by taking our nasty or malicious anger and somehow making it all right.  The way God works is, again, through his word.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.11.

How willing you are to let God's word to change your life rather than you use your words to harm other people, especially God's servants?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Say No to word of anger

The message I got from Jesus today is a warning for us to stop using word of anger or any kind of word to hurt other people.

Verse 19 "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry" is perhaps one of the most used Golden verses. It is so easy to say, so easy to remember, but not easy to do.

Most people can't listen to the suggestions of other people well, most people wants to speak and respond in a hasty way, and most people become angry in such a short time. Do you agree? How can we change this kind of poisonous cycle: slow to listen, quick to speak and fast to anger?

The only way is the Word of God. That's how the author wants to tell us. Not only that, if we say that we read the Word of God often, know the Word of God well, but we cannot practice the Word of God, it is nothing.

As James says, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

Can you do what the word of God says? If so, then say NO to word of anger and let God's word change you so that you can say words to encourage and to build, not to destroy.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to say NO to word of anger and that we can say words to encourage and build. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
