Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Joshua 9:22-10:11)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua 10&version=ESV

And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal, saying, “Do not relax your hand from your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill country are gathered against us.” So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands. Not a man of them shall stand before you.” So Joshua came upon them suddenly, having marched up all night from Gilgal. 10 And the Lord threw them into a panic before Israel, who struck them with a great blow at Gibeon and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11 And as they fled before Israel, while they were going down the ascent of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died because of the hailstones than the sons of Israel killed with the sword.
                 Joshua 10:6-11

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
We have read for the past few days three groups of people. Rahab and her family, the Hivites which were the Gibeon people and also those Canaanite kings. These three groups had three different results facing the Israelites. Rahab and her family got saved, being received as true family members of the Israelites and Rahab became one of Jesus ancestor. The Gibeon people survived but became slaves working in the temple. Those kings were being killed. Why?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The Hivites are like Rahab and her family, who were due to die as part of God's judgment on the Canaanite peoples as a whole. Rahab knew how to react when she heard about what God had been doing with the Israelites, and she became part of the Israelite community without losing the awareness that ethnically she was a foreigner. The average Canaanite king reacted by seeking to resist what God was doing and seeking to put an end to these uppity Israelites, and he paid for this with his life. The Hivites fell somewhere in between. They too had heard what God had been doing with the Israelites, but they hadn't responded either with Rahab's straightness or with the other kings' hostility. So they ended up in a support role in the temple.

The Gibeon knew how to swallow their pride and survived in the midst of God's sever judgment.
Those kings got kill because of their pride!

Well, where are you now? How is your relationship with God and His servants?

Do you know your pride might cause your life?

Do you know how to swallow your pride like those Gibeon people did?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to humble ourselves before you and your servants. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you think you have your own pride to God and His servants? How do you know you do not have that? How is your relationship with God's servants?

2. How can you swallow your pride like the Gibeon people?

3. Do you think your pride might cause your life?

4. What have you got from Jesus today?
