Like new born babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2: 2-3

What I heard from Jesus today is: Daily devotion please!

Recently I had lunch with some new friends. One of them knew that our son Ignatius is studying at Regent College he said, "Oh, that's good. I am also studying in a seminary. I have someone to ask for theological questions now." I said, "Well, do you know we as Christians are in a very critical situation now. It's not yet theological questions we need to ask but to ask whether you have daily devotion." He lowered his head and said, "You are well said. I go to study in a seminary trying to learn theology but I do not have time for daily devotion. And, I have made lots of excuses not going to our weekly prayer meeting." He wife joined in, "Me too! We know that it's wrong but we can't help!"

Just as Peter says in this chapter, new Christians as well as those who have been Christians for a long time must never lose their spiritual appetite and hunger for the pure nourishment of God's Word, for it is our source of life(1: 23-25). Without that you die spiritually! The sign of our spiritual health is a deep desire to feed on the living and enduring Word of God. That's why we need to be alert to any loss of hunger and thirst for God's Word due to wrong attitudes or being choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures. Only by spending time in God's Word will you be able to "grow up in your salvation' (v.3) rather than remaining a spiritual infant or immature child of God.

How well have you been spending time with Jesus? How well have you attended your church's weekly prayer meetings?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to have the spiritual appetite to spend time with you daily and be willing to join our weekly prayer meeting. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
