Bible Study

      This passage is not talking about money, not talking about giving but talking about lying. Lying brings destruction!

     God made a severe punishment to Ananias and Sapphira not because of they did not give all their money they had from selling their property. God made a severe punishment to them because they lied to the Holy Spirit. Peter said Ananias was filled by Satan but not the Holy Spirit.

     We need to notice that it was the Holy Spirit to move those new Christians hearts to offer everything they had to build up the Early Church. Barnabas gave one of his properties and that was fine. His example is being praised as a good example of giving. Ananias and Sapphira told other people that they gave all they got from the selling of their properties, but in fact they did not. Why? You can think of lots of reasons. The important lesson for us to learn is that both of them died instantly. 

     God wanted the Early Church full of truth but not lies.
     God wants us to live each day in truth and not in lies. Yet, this whole world is full of lies! Don't take part in this lying culture!  
                      
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"



Spiritual Journal

     What I heard from Jesus today is: Don't take part in this lying culture
    What I got from Jesus is a warning to all of us to be aware of a lying culture surrounding us each day. Do we really have a kind of lying culture surrounding us? If you do not agree, I do not have anything to argue with you.

    Sometime ago I wanted to help a couple to mend their broken marriage. One of them did two things very wrong and I knew that. I asked the one and the answer was just confessing one. I asked, "Is there any other thing you did wrongly?" The person said, "No, that was the only thing I did." I asked again, "Really?" The answer was still the same. And, I knew that this person was lying but I could not help anymore. This is the closest example I can think of as in this passage. Peter gave Ananias a chance, he did not get that chance to confess and he died. Peter gave Sapphira a chance, she did not get that chance to confess and she died. Jesus led me to give a chance to this person but the reply was a lie. The result is a broken marriage!

     Don't lie to the Holy Spirit! Don't lie to anyone! Don't follow this lying culture!
     
         
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to get away from the darkness of this lying culture into your light and truth so that your Kingdom will be extend and your Name will be glorified.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
