Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      But I will sing of your strength;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me a fortress
and a refuge in the day of my distress.
17       O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, are my fortress,
the God who shows me steadfast love.
                             Psalm 59:16-17

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Leviticus 8:1-10:20)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+10&version=ESV

Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized[a] fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Among those who are near me I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” And Aaron held his peace.
                              Leviticus 10: 1-3

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Chapter 8 to 10 actually tells us about how the first ordination happened. Moses did everything according to how God told him to do as described in Exodus 29. But, disaster happened and Aaron's two sons died because of their pride and careless mistake. You may not understand why God did that.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Leviticus will go on to show how holiness and cleanness extend to many aspects of everyday life; moral and other behavioural matters are part of Israel's distinctiveness over against other people and part of its purity. All this gives the priests an important teaching role
All this supplies background to the horrific story that opens Leviticus 10.  It begins by suggesting a contrast with the previous chapters, which emphasized that the priests were ordained "as God had commanded Moses"; at point after point, it reexpresses Exodus 29, underscoring that point.
We don't know what then made the fire "alien," but it was somehow different from what God had commanded, and that is the point in relation to the exhortation about distinguishing between the sacred and the ordinary and between the taboo and the clean.  The offensive fire was unholy or impure.  Terrible consequences followed from offering it
It also has a broader implication.  Every time God does something new (creation, calling Abraham, the exodus, meeting Israel at Sinai, sending the Holy Spirit on the disciples), that is soon followed by people making it go wrong.

John Goldingay. Exodus and Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.145.

Can you imagine how those Israelites felt when they saw that? How about Aaron and his two other sons? What did they feel?

Similar disaster happened in the early church as described in Acts about the death of Ananias and Sapphira. Can you imagine how those Early Church Christians felt when they saw that.

I do hope and pray that today's passage teaches you to know the importance of doing what God commands. It involves two parts:
1. You need to have that intimate relationship with God so that you can receive His command.

2. Your willingness to execute His command.

How well have you been doing that?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know your commands and be willing to execute your commands.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. What have you really learn from today's message?

2. Do you think God would do that today to those who don't do what God commands? Would that scare you or help you to be more faithful?

Praise and Thanksgiving
Let's give thanks for God with us. Let us praise Him:
