Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
35          For God will save Zion
and build up the cities of Judah,
           and people shall dwell there and possess it;
36            the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
                             Psalm 69:34-36

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Numbers 14:39-45)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers 14&version=ESV

39 When Moses told these words to all the people of Israel, the people mourned greatly.40 And they rose early in the morning and went up to the heights of the hill country, saying,“Here we are. We will go up to the place that the Lord has promised, for we have sinned.”41 But Moses said, “Why now are you transgressing the command of the Lord, when that will not succeed? 42 Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you, lest you be struck down before your enemies. 43 For there the Amalekites and the Canaanites are facing you, and you shall fall by the sword. Because you have turned back from following the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.” 44 But they presumed to go up to the heights of the hill country, although neither the ark of the covenant of the Lord nor Moses departed out of the camp.45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and defeated them and pursued them, even to Hormah.

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
Here in this passage we see a tragedy happened. When God said, "Go!" They complained and did not do anything. Then they heard God's punishment from Moses and they wanted to go. But, God said, "No go!" But, they went and suffered great loss. Could that be our story too?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

There is the account of the Israelites deciding to advance up the mountain ridge toward Hebron and the heart of the country they will eventually occupy, as God had intended them to do. One can imagine Moses tearing his hair. When they are supposed to go, they won't. Now they are not supposed to go, but they insist on doing so!

John Goldingay. Numbers & Deuteronomy for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.39.

How can we avoid making this kind of human mistake that happens so often?
Go or No Go, how can you decide?
The key is actually "Is God with you". If God is with you and whatever He tells you to do, just do it. Nothing is impossible in God. If God is not with you, then no matter how hard you try, sooner or later you'll suffer great loss!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to rely on you and obey your command totally so that we know when to go and when not to go. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Are you in a kind of deciding moment lately? How can this passage helps you to make a Godly decision?

2. What insight have you got from today's message?

Praise and Thanksgiving
Let's give thanks for God with us. Let us praise Him:
