Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Oh sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things!
His right hand and his holy arm
              have worked salvation for him.

                                  Psalm 98:1

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Deuteronomy 14:22-29)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy 14&version=ESV

22 “You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year. 23 And before the Lord your God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. 24 And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, when the Lord your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the Lord your God chooses, to set his name there, 25 then you shall turn it into money and bind up the money in your hand and go to the place that the Lord your God chooses 26 and spend the money for whatever you desire—oxen or sheep or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves. And you shall eat there before the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household. 27 And you shall not neglect the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.

28 “At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. 29 And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.
                   Deuteronomy 14:22-29

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening

According to some research, there are only less than 10% of Christians tithe. Then, my own research shows that only less than 10% of Christians have daily devotion. So, do you think most of those who tithe are having daily devotion, a daily intimate relationship with God? I don't know! What I know is that if you do not have the habit of daily devotion and you don't tithe, I don't think you can go much further in your faith journey!

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The rules about tithes and firstlings relate food to God in some other ways. They give expression to the fact that your food comes from God; you give some back to God in recognition of this fact. it helps you "revere" God as the great giver…
You cannot take your food for granted or let it be a part of your life that has nothing to do with God.

John Goldingay. Numbers & Deuteronomy for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.144.

We learn from yesterday's passage that when God says NO, we don't do it. Today, God says you have to tithe and you have to do it. Actually, tithing is the bottom line and our offering should always be more than our tithing. When you are willing to do that, revere the Lord your God becomes a reality and you will be richly blessed by God in all things.

What I got from Jesus is very simple and important today:

God Says Tithing, You Have to Tithe

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to know that you command us to tithe and more.  Help us to be willing to listen and obey to your command and do it. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you know you need to tithe? How good are you responding to this command lately?

2. How can you be more sensitive to listen to God's command on tithing and more than tithing?
