Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

            The Lord is great in Zion;
he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name!
             Holy is he!

                                  Psalm 99:2-3

Confession and Repentance

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Deuteronomy 17:14-20)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=申+命+記+17&version=ESV

14 “When you come to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it and then say, ‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,’ 15 you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. 16 Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you,‘You shall never return that way again.’ 17 And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.
18 “And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, 20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.
                   Deuteronomy 17:14-20

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening

This passage of only seven verses is perhaps one of the most important passages in the whole Bible. Why? Because it shows when someone deliberately have pride and not listen to God with what He says here brings destruction.
In verse 16 to 17 God says very clear that when the Israelites have a king he can't do three things:
1. Buy no horse from Egypt
2. Not have many wives
3. Not acquire excessive silver and gold
If any king does that, that is pride and the consequence is "he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel" would not happen. That's destruction.
I would like to give you a challenge today. The challenge is for you to read 1 Kings chapters 10 and 11 to find out what is the king's name and how he did not follow the three "NOs" and the whole Kingdom of Israel was being destroyed by his pride and not listen to God.
Whenever I read this passage, I feel trembling of what does it means by "fear of God". God says "Justice, and only justice, you shall follow" in yesterday's passage. In today's passage, we can see how devastating it could be when God exercise His justice!
Pride and not listening to God brings destruction.
Fear of God, listen and obey brings protection and blessings.
Which way are you going to choose?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to follow you daily so that we won't suffer the consequence of pride and not listening to you. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. How do you feel when you read today's message? Do you have that kind of pride of not listening to God sometimes? Have you suffered any consequence?

2. Are you willing to read 1 Kings chapter 10 and 11 today to find out what's the name of the king not listening to God's command in today's passage?

Praise and Thanksgiving
Let's give thanks for God with us. Let us praise Him:
