But Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone." Romans 9: 31-32
What I heard from Jesus today is: Not doing devotion but being with Jesus!
What is the difference between doing devotion and being with Jesus?
The difference is big! Doing devotion may be a kind of work or duty that you need to do because you are a Christian and if you don't do it you would have a kind of guilty feeling. Just like students do not like to do their homework so they don't feeling happy when they are doing their homework. Being with Jesus is one word: relationship. It is a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus. When you are being with Jesus everyday reading His Word from the Bible you feel His presence. You feel joy, peace, satisfied...
That's what Paul means here in this chapter. Justification by faith and not by work means you do not do anything to earn your salvation but by faith. It is "relationship" but not "work"! If you have your daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus then you will be transformed daily and have a lifestyle of Christlikeness. Faith and relationship begets work, love and everything but not the other way round.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to be with you daily that I can come close to you, enjoy your presence and experience the transformation. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
