Bible Study
With more than two chapters on how Jesus used various opportunities to teach His disciples not to be afraid. This few verses records how Jesus wants to tell His disciples what they really need to fear of, what their challenge is.
N.T. Wright says, "By focusing on outward purity, the Pharisees and those teachers of the law are avoiding the much deeper challenge of the gospel, the challenge to the human heart." He then states Mark 10: 5 pointing out that jesus is offering a cure for the problems of the heart, for the springs of motivation that result in wicked thoughts and deeds...Jesus' basic point is that purity laws, including food laws, don't actually touch the real human problem, and that that is what the kingdom of God addresses."
The real human problem! Wow! Do you know your real human problem?
Have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to God as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"
My Spiritual Journal
What I heard from Jesus today is: You nullify the Word of God!
Yes, that is the main human basic problem. Jesus says, "You nullify the Word of God!" We have all kinds of traditions and ways of doing things but in order to fulfill all those human instructions, we nullify the Word of God!
Tonight we had a wonderful Leadership Breakthrough Conference led by my coach, Dr. Terry Walling. He led us to sing a Sunday School song, "Deep and wide, deep and wide, and the fountain flowing deep and wide. Deep and wide, deep and wide, and the fountain flowing deep and wide." The research of my Doctoral thesis is that only less than 10% or even 5% of Christians are having a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus through His word as what we call "daily devotion". With that many people acting intentionally or unintentionally to nullify the Word of God daily, how can our hearts be changed? If our hearts can't be changed, how can Jesus be our Lord, our Savior and our King? If we do not have Jesus as our Lord, our Savior and our King, what could our lives look like?
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us not to clink so tightly on traditions and not return to your Words and our daily intimate personal relationship with you that we will never nullify your Word. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
